How does the student offer compare with the Free plan?
The gap is mostly about volume. The Free plan costs $0 and covers building, GitHub sync, Design Mode and deploying to Vercel, but it is capped at 7 messages a day. New users also get $5 of one-time credits, given once per user in each personal or team account.
Existing Free users keep a $5 monthly allowance. A one-time allowance does not renew once it is used.

How far do $20 of monthly credits go?
Credits are spent on tokens. Input is measured by what you send, and output by what v0 returns. Long prompts with big pasted files cost more on the way in, and long generated pages cost more on the way out.
For scale, the v0 Mini model is priced per million tokens at $0.20 input and $1.20 output. Output costs six times as much as input (1.20 divided by 0.20), so short, specific requests stretch a budget further than open-ended ones.
When credits run out, generation pauses. Listed prices are in USD and exclude taxes, which are added to the invoice where required.
What happens when the student year ends?
The student offer runs for one year, and v0 does not publish what happens at the end. Plan for two outcomes: you drop back to the Free plan at $0 with 7 messages a day, or you move to a paid plan. A yearly price for v0 plans is not published either.
